Tembo by Jackson Collection
Our History
The Tembo by Jackson Collection was created by Jackson Naurori, a full bloodied Masai warrior.
Born in the Mara, herding and protecting cattle from lions as a child, Jackson’s lifetime skill and knowledge are unparalleled as a guide and developer. Jackson expanded the Mara experience by building two diverse tented camps in different locations, both under canvas, for the maximum enjoyment of visitors.
The Tembo Spirit Camp nestles in the remote and beautiful Lemek conservancy with large modern tents, a spa, swimming pool, walking safaris and night game drives, a true luxury destination, and the original Tembo Bush camp in the heart of the National Reserve for a traditional camp wildlife safari with dense game viewing, highly experienced guides, and a media-tent often used by professional photographers.
Partnering with the Cleave family, the Tembo by Jackson collection remains a 100% Kenyan owned facility. The Cleave family’s lifetime experience in flying bush planes into wildlife areas in Botswana, Tanzania and Kenya adds a useful layer of aviation experience around wildlife areas and camps.

Sustainability
The Masai Mara is a remote area and therefore off-grid. Nevertheless, being genuinely sustainable as well as eco-friendly, requires effort: the Tembo by Jackson Collection camps run on 100% solar energy, reduced the need for fossil fuel. The back up generators are only for occasional use. Hot water is created through low watt ‘heat pumps’ which further reduce the energy needs of the camp.
All waste water is passed through biodigesters and grease traps to ensure full treatment before being returned to the environment. All water comes from an onsite borehole. This reduces the need for purchasing water and eliminates the use of plastic containers. The camps recycle glass bottles and ensure that waste is correctly split between colored containers.
Growing herbs and vegetables reduces transport and fuel needs. This itself has challenges: one evening, the elephants strolled in and devoured the entire herb garden.

Promoting Education, Wildlife Awareness and Environmental Protection
Jackson champions sustainable, community based and respectful tourism that protects local habitat while empowering the indigenous Masai community. He founded the Masai Mara Solidarity charity that assists local families.
Masai Mara Solidarity actively supports the Masai community by financing access to school for children from disadvantaged families, with the support of the French association Masai Mara Solidarité France: You may find a Tembo by Jackson vehicle on safari with Masai children: in this way, the association raises awareness among children of their future role in protecting the environment and wildlife.
The future of the Masai Mara cheetah, for example, is inextricably linked to the future of Masai children!
