The Surviving Last of Tano Bora

Three cheetahs of the Tano Bora coalition standing close together on a dirt track, mouths open, with tall green grass and a blue sky behind them

In March 2025, the Mara woke up to heartbreaking news. Winda, one of the last two surviving members of the legendary Tano Bora coalition, had taken his final breath.

Tano Bora was a coalition of five male cheetahs, brothers who were once a mighty force. They ruled the plains, hunted together, defied the odds and rewrote the story of cheetahs in the wild. Their speed was unmatched and their bond unbreakable, until nature, in its quiet and unforgiving way, began to take them one by one.

With Winda gone, only one remained, a lone warrior carrying the spirit of his fallen brothers. The wind carried his story across the savannah. Even the greatest must bow to time.

For everyone who was lucky enough to see Tano Bora in their glory days, the news brought a day of reflection and a day to honour their legacy. The Mara lost a legend that March, but its plains will forever echo with the footsteps of the fastest hunters it has ever known.
